Although the days are getting shorter it feels like time is standing still in our little corner of Soho and we are all dearly missing the rush of a busy evening that we were taking for granted just a few months ago. Nonetheless we are dedicated on bringing you some of the very best wines that you cannot enjoy with us in person. Following our very successful mixed white wine box, we are proud to present the Gauthier Autumn Rouges Mixed Box.
The box offers a curated selection of wines that we loved serving in the restaurant but also a spark of something new and exciting. All ready to drink now but with a potential for ageing for several years.
It goes without saying that this is a selection tailored towards autumn dishes, weather and moods - full of dark colours, deep textures and crunchy fruit with a touch of earthiness but our inspiration this week were truffles. At Gauthier Soho usually available all year round, either in our risotto or tortellini, one could hardly spend an evening with us without trying at least one dish with truffles. With the release of the Tartufo Box we wanted to make sure to have a suitable wine selection to accompany it but even our vegan customers will find the selection to be suprisingly versatile.

'WEEKEND' - 2x Cahors 2018, Château Pech de Jammes 'Petit Jammes' • Malbec
After the success of our Argentinian Malbec which completely sold out, this is a new French Malbec from the home of this popular grape variety, Cahors. Situated in a small commune of Flaujac-Poujols in the Lot department in South-West of France, the winemaker Thomas Chardard brings impressive wine that holds its own against the best of the region. What is worth mentioning is that there is an actual truffle field next to the vineyard in Cahors for a little geographical pairing.
Deep and rich colour and bouquet full of ripe blackberries prepares you for smooth, silky tannins and black fruit character balancing out the rustic nature of the region.
2x Gigondas 2018, Domaine de la Roubine • Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre
This wine is a treat that you might remember from our restaurant wine pairing as one of the most popular wines for several seasons. Frequently requested but never before available at Gauthier Wines this is the highlight of this box. Coming from a family run estate at the foothills of Dentelles de Montmirail in Southern Rhône Valley, you will not find a better wine for the season.
Although the wine starts quite gently showing just a hint of its power, it quickly builds up moving from the fruit of Grenache to the spice and concentration of the Syrah. The palate is intense and robust, full of crunchy red and black fruit but even then it shows a subtle notes of black pepper, licorice and truffle. Aged partially in French oak for 14 months and bottled without any fining or filtration.
